I Call Shotgun! No, Wait, That's Him...

So, for those of you not spending a lot of time in the land of Big Kitty, Dr. Boy has a new hobby. He shoots skeet. Like, a couple of times a week. So, after several weeks of arguments, a tentative agreement, and the faintest glimmer of a present for me, he has bought a shotgun. But, since NYC makes it well nigh impossible to get a gun license, he can't bring it home for about a year. We drive out to the "country" to visit it. In a lot of ways, it's not unlike buying a puppy. You buy it, you visit, and it can’t live with you until it’s “ready.” BTW, the “country” is about an hour outside of Manhattan, and 10 miles past Suffern (remember? Where Aidan had a cabin in S&TC?) And, it’s so NOT the country.

This weekend, I needed to run errands in NJ. And since I’m a child of the Great Depression, I refused to pay the GWB tolls twice. So, I got up godawfully early and rode out to just past Suffern to watch Dr. Boy shoot. I had so much fun, I did it the next day too! Honestly, it was awesome. I took one of those projects you always have on your list, but never get to, and locked myself in a car with snacks, radio and cell phone and just hummed right through what needed to get done. I made more progress than I have in 3 years. And then, Dr. Boy and I had a really lovely afternoon of driving around and talking, running errands, and eating lunch.

He was v. nervous on Saturday that he was taking too long, and that I was bored. OK, OK, I did set off the car alarm, but that was an ACCIDENT (stupid ‘panic’ button). But, by Sunday, he’d relaxed, so I got to sit longer and get more done. Not a perfect weekend activity every week, but definitely a once in a while thing. A few more trips, and I’ll finally catch up on my scrapbooking :D
