New Hobby

The best part of my job is that it allows me to leave it at the office at the end of the day. I like getting stuff done, but I really like leaving and not thinking about work. For the first time in years, I have the time and emotional space for hobbies.

And, I finally got into that calligraphy class that I wanted. SO MUCH FUN!


Let me be clear. I suck. Hard. My teacher's great, and I can tell from her little encouragements and pointers around the room that I'm struggling more than most. But, this is my first class, and I'm improving. And, I'll take it again.

I've been wanting to learn Copperplate for years. And, now that I'm doing it, it's making me 100 times happier than I thought it would. But, it's given me a new bug. I have fallen deeply, madly in love with letterpress printing. And, it turns out that there are classes I can take, studios I can rent, and small presses that I can afford and store. Droooooooooooooooooollllllllllllllllllllll. 2008 is definitely all about calligraphy, but if I have the time I'd love to include letterpress. Or, to make that 2009's goal.

BTW, Dr. Boy is sitting next to me, and is worried that all this typing is about him. For the record, NOT EVERYTHING IN MY LIFE IS ABOUT HIM. Jackass. Poor fool is lucky I still talk to him.

BTW, having a lovely time with the crazy on ebay. Hope to win and have photos for you soon. And, Easter is nearly here, and that always brings out my inner crafty self. God help us all, I have a project in mind.
