One of my all-time favorite Beastie Boys songs is "Shadrach." Fantastic hook, great beat, and oddly, one of my favorite Bible stories. For whatever reason, these three dudes linger in my psyche, and I find myself thinking about them all the time. Which lately, means I start humming "Shadrach." Awesome communion with the Lord, I tell ya.
For those of you who don't remember your book of Daniel, S-M-A were Daniel's buddies who survived tests because they ate a purified diet - no fat, no meat, lots of fruits and veggies. Honestly, I never remember the Daniel connection, and I have to look it up. But, I think of these three whenever I've eaten too much.
Which I did the day before Mother's Day. Brunch at Norma's in the Parker Meridien comes highly recommended. LOVED it.
So now, I've been eating lighter, more summery fare like watermelon. Which always makes me think of my three favorite religious holidays in the Southern Baptist canon - the Watermelon Social, Ice Cream Social, and the Family Bake-off. Which brings me full circle to my boys, Shad-rach, Mesh-ach, Abed-neh-go.
Went to DC and saw Mallory and Dave, who were fantastic hosts. Also, we dropped by on their friends unannounced, and FAW-WHAP, they slapped out a full spread of cheese, crackers and yumminess. I was floored. Then Mallory started running down her "instant hostess" options. Dude, I am sorely shamed. If you show up at my house unannounced with a posse, all I can do is order take-out. They are going to revoke my Southern Lady license.
A side note on confidentiality - I know many of you are holding back on your responses for fear that you will accidentally "out" me. Sorry! Feel free to post all you want. So long as you don't use my name, my boss's or my business's, we should be in good shape.
