New York before 9 a.m.

I have been outside of my apartment for less than 30 minutes.

On my way into the subway station 2 blocks from where I live, two men on the platform were making nasty faces and saying something to the woman in front of me. I had my iPod on, and learned long ago not to get involved with crazy men, so I just kept moving. The woman and I made a left turn less than 5 feet from the men, and went downstairs. That's when I realized that she had picked up a sanitation worker's broom and dustpan. Just took it. We got to the lower platform, and while I was debating whether to get involved now, she stopped and had a conversation with a Transit Cop. Who didn't seem to care.

On the way out of the subway station near my office, a line of commuters leaving the station blocked a woman from getting into the station. She missed her train, threw a fit, and blocked everyone else from leaving through the turnstile door (is that what you call them?). The split second she let go of the gate, we all just pushed through, while she and 3 other women stood around yelling at us.

Went to the deli across the street from my office. OK coffee and oatmeal for $3. Every morning. Except today, when I got into another line and found out it's $3.10. The woman in my regular line must just not like to deal with change. I'll be back in her line tomorrow.

This place is really strange...
