War and Peace, blog-style

Woo-hoo, indeed.

Strap in, kids, and get ready for the longest blog entry in history. I've been working on it for 3 weeks, adding and deleting, and think that today's the day to bang it out and get it over with. Like all of my projects, this one has been weighing on me. The longer I work on it in my head, the harder it gets, the bigger it seems, the more I put it off. So, here it comes, in all its craptasticness. And, hopefully, with this out of the way, I will finally be able to get back to writing just a little bit on an ongoing basis. I should get Twitter...

Part 1 of 6 -

I am, as always, watching baseball while Dr. Boy talks to himself and his computer. Inner monologue is sadly lacking, as is a respite from Tina Cervasio and her chipper, mid-inning filler stories. I shouldn't complain... at least it's the Sox. We seem to watch a lot of teams that are not the Sox for reasons that escape me. I don't care about standings, or how games influence our race to the pennant. After all, why else did Jesus make SportsCenter, except to save your longsuffering girlfriend from having to watch the frikkin' ANGELS.

Part 2 of 6 -

Read "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" last night. It was pretty good. I hate to admit it, but after years of bitching about authors who had to tie up every godforsaken loose end, I was really glad Rowling did it. She leaves no question unanswered. You may not like her answers (some felt hurried and full of explication a la any CSI episode) and you may not like her ending, but the Times was right - closure. Though I still think Michiko Kakutani is a prick for publishing her review 2 days before the book was released. For what? To make a point that the Times doesn't need Scholastic, and that they have no control over their vendors even in Manhattan? Petty, especially from the most important critic at the paper with the widest circulation in the country.

Part 3 of 6 -

Saw "Wicked" on Broadway, and would recommend it. I will say that the score left my mind almost as soon as I had seen it, whereas I sang parts of "Rent" for months after. And, I am not one of those "Rent" wingnuts that thinks "Seasons of Love" is perfect background music for every kind of party - kegger, hook-up, dinner with friends. The only effect of "Wicked" is that I am enjoying my attempts to make up words. Harder than it sounds. I was really hoping to figure out a contraction of "Rent" and some synonym of fanatic that would capture the personalities of these boobs. But, nothing worked. On the good side, I am no longer humming "Sodomy" to myself, and was only momentarily distracted by the CT Light & Power commercial featuring "U can't touch this."

Jenny introduced me to a lexographer who is married to another lexographer. I have not yet emailed him, but I have plans to try to lure them into being couple friends of mine and Dr. Boy's (was that gramma-tickly correct? Too tired to care....) Wish me luck with my diabolical plans.

Part 4 of 6 -

The Visit to the Kwik-E-Mart. Lots of fun. I am now the proud owner of a plastic Squishee cup. I was so excited, that Dr. Boy is now worried that I will want to buy a Simpsons X-Box. Hmph! I explained that I am excited because I am not lame, that this is a once in a lifetime chance, and I don't even like video games. Though I think the Wii looks like fun. We do not, however, need any more electronics. After the He-vo and She-vo arrive (please, Santa, please!).
Wish I had done a better job. All of the signs are for Simpsons products, and the Springfield bank. Notice that 7-11 is gone from the facade. Inside, all flyers, decals, everything were Simpson related.

The Duff, sadly, is only a dice game. But the Buzz was real.

Who needs the Kwik-E-Mart? I felt badly for the real South Asian owner forced to wear a Kwik-E-Mart shirt. But, judging from the crowd and the Squishee cups I see around town, he's being well-compensated for this stunt.

Part 5 of 6 -

I have been trying to get some excercise in the park. On the hottest days of the year. Stupid, yes, but at least I won't end up like this. I hope. Here's a picture of the $50 bike that I bought at Walmart. Dr. Boy put together for me as a surprise, which was a huge relief. The directions were MADDENING. Wish me luck, and worry not; I also bought a helmet.

Part 6 of 6 -

Had a great weekend in Boston, where I gave Christine this onesie for her baby boy. He's due on 7/23/07 and Dr. Boy & I can't wait to meet him.

Dr. Boy seemed to really miss me, which was really nice, as I was only gone 4 days. Things are going rather smoothly, and with lots of hand holding this week. No objections. His back is bad, but it's hard to evaluate whether it's worse than before or not. He is in more pain, but he's able to move more. We are, however, going to buy him some shoes he can put on without me. I AM SO SICK OF SHOE-TYING. Los gatos also seemed to miss me; they were very well behaved while I was gone, and since my return have beaten the beejesus out of each other for my attention. They do this when Dr. Boy leaves too, though evidently to a lesser degree. Hey, man, if we have to play favorites, I'm glad I'm winning :).

I went to Brimfield, but didn't buy much except for 2 tole candlesticks. And, I lost one on the way home. Still calling lost & founds, so pray that it's recovered. Dr Boy felt so bad that he let me put it in the living room, so it's actually kind of a win. I moped a little, and so for a while we were entertaining the idea of getting a tole chandelier for the living room (i.e. 30 minutes). I've always wanted one, but after a few hours on ebay, I have to admit that it's not the right look for Big Kitty Land right now. Poor Dr. Boy - he was really afraid of what he'd gotten himself into for a while there.

The sole survivor

I was so depressed, that I took to the couch. Here's a shot of Grumpy Kitty and Scared Kitty comforting me.

Enough for today. Hope you're all doing well. BTW, GenXer, loving the shout outs :) Off to paint my nails,

XOXO,

M
